Sedlec Ossuary "Bone Church".
Sedlec Ossuary, or the "Bone Church," is a distinct Gothic chapel in Kutná Hora, Czech Republic, uniquely adorned with the remains of 40,000 to 70,000 skeletons. Its mesmerizing interior features an elaborate bone chandelier, crafted from almost every human bone, alongside bone chalices, candelabras, and intricate pyramids. Originating in the 13th century, the site gained significance after a Cistercian abbot returned from Jerusalem, transforming the cemetery into a popular burial ground. When the cemetery overflowed, bones were transferred to the ossuary, where woodcarver František Rint creatively arranged them in the 1870s, including the famous Schwarzenberg family crest. Today, the ossuary serves as a profound reflection on mortality and artistry, attracting visitors eager to experience its haunting beauty.
