FOŠA.
Perched at the edge of the pint-sized Foša harbor, this restaurant is built directly into Zadar’s 16th-century stone ramparts. The location is the primary draw, featuring a waterfront terrace where the Adriatic literally laps at the foundation while fishing boats bob nearby. Chef Damir Tomljanović focuses on a sea-to-table philosophy, utilizing the morning’s local catch for dishes like black cuttlefish gnocchi, tuna carpaccio, and salt-baked sea bream. While the menu leans heavily into Dalmatian seafood traditions, there is a distinct contemporary polish found in the plating and the extensive cellar of over 120 Croatian labels. Inside, the architecture blends ancient masonry with sleek, minimalist lighting. It is a refined but unpretentious spot to watch the sun dip behind the city walls over a glass of Istrian Malvasia.
