Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve.

At high altitudes where the Caribbean trade winds meet the Continental Divide, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve remains perpetually draped in mist. This moisture-rich environment sustains an incredible density of life, from towering trees draped in epiphytes to over 500 species of orchids. While many visitors come specifically to spot the rare resplendent quetzal or the three-wattled bellbird, the park's eight miles of trails offer a deep dive into several distinct life zones. Founded by a partnership between scientists and the local Quaker community, the reserve is a benchmark for conservation. Beyond the daytime hikes, the forest transforms at night, revealing red-eyed tree frogs and nocturnal mammals. For a different perspective, the hanging bridges provide a rare view of the canopy, where much of the forest's biological activity actually happens.
