Nauyaca Waterfalls.
Tucked into the lush canyons of the Pérez Zeledón region, Nauyaca is often cited as the most impressive waterfall system in Costa Rica. The attraction is defined by two distinct tiers: a powerful 140-foot upper drop that crashes onto a rocky shelf and a 60-foot lower fall that spills into a deep, crystalline swimming hole. To get there, visitors choose between a humid 2.5-mile hike, a horseback tour, or a rugged 4x4 truck shuttle. While the upper falls are ideal for photos and feeling the spray from a small cave, the lower pool is the main draw for swimming and sunbathed lounging on oversized boulders. Facilities near the falls include a rancho with hammocks and showers, providing a comfortable base for a day of birdwatching for toucans or watching daring locals cliff-jump into the basins.
