Jing’s Residence.
Set within a 260-year-old silk merchant’s mansion, Jing’s Residence is a masterclass in restorative architecture within the walled city of Pingyao. The property consists of grey-brick pavilions and interconnected courtyards that maintain the structural integrity of the Qing Dynasty, featuring original timber beams and intricate wood carvings. Its 19 rooms lean into a minimalist aesthetic, balancing heated brick beds (kangs) and silk textiles with contemporary necessities like walk-in showers and freestanding tubs. The atmosphere is intentionally quiet, offering a retreat from the busy ancient streets outside. Guests can participate in traditional regional crafts like noodle making or paper cutting, while the onsite restaurant serves Shaanxi specialties and hot pot in a refined, glass-walled setting.
