One of China’s Five Great Mountains, Huashan is a formidable Taoist site defined by jagged granite peaks and sheer vertical drops. Located in Shaanxi Province, the mountain is famous for its five distinct summits, each offering a different perspective of the surrounding Qinling range. While the West Summit is celebrated for its lotus-shaped rock formations and sunset views, the South Summit stands as the highest point at 2,154 meters. For many, the draw is the extreme terrain; the Changkong Plank Road is a narrow timber path bolted directly into a cliff face, requiring a harness and iron chains to navigate. Beyond the adrenaline, the mountain is a cultural hub featuring ancient grottoes and temples like the Yuquan. Visitors can choose between steep, ancient stone stairways or modern cable cars that bypass the most grueling ascents to reach the scenic ridgelines.
