Sweetland.
In "Sweetland," Moses Sweetland clings to his fading island home off Newfoundland's coast with dark humor and poignant defiance. For generations, the islanders have weathered the ebbs and flows of fishing fortune, but now face resettlement with an all-or-nothing government buyout. Amidst this, Sweetland, driven by deep ties to his home, memories of isolation from his youth, and concern for his great-nephew's future off the island, initially resists leaving. Yet, after relenting to community pressure, a sudden accident leads him to feign death and remain as the last inhabitant. Struggling for survival and haunted by the 'ghosts' of past residents, he endures the elements and solitude, with only the illusion of their presence, and the lights of empty homes flickering in the night.
