The Atlantic Forest South-East Reserves in São Paulo and Paraná are crucial ecological havens stretching over 470,000 hectares and consisting of 25 protected zones, showcasing some of the highest biodiversity in the world. Home to around 70% of tree species, 85% of primates, and 39% of mammals unique to the Atlantic Forest, these ecosystems host remarkable endemic wildlife. The diverse landscapes include rugged mountains, lush forests, wetlands, and coastal islands, providing habitats for over 450 tree species per hectare. Notable features like the Casa de Pedra Cave boast the world’s largest cave portal. Recognized as a World Heritage site, these reserves play an essential role in conservation, offering activities like trekking, cave exploration, and wildlife observation, while also serving as a critical ecological corridor amidst growing threats from deforestation.
