Queen Emma Bridge.
Connecting the Punda and Otrobanda districts of Willemstad across St. Anna Bay, the Queen Emma Bridge is one of the world's few remaining floating pontoon bridges. Locally nicknamed the "Swinging Old Lady," the entire 1888 structure is hinged on one side, allowing it to pivot laterally like a massive gate to let ships into the harbor. Watching the bridge swing open is a central part of the city’s rhythm, though pedestrians caught on board during the transition simply get a free boat ride. The walk across offers the best vantage point for Curaçao’s iconic pastel-colored colonial waterfront. At night, the bridge is illuminated by a long arc of lights, while the gentle undulation of the pontoons underfoot provides a constant, tactile reminder of the Caribbean tides below.
