Changangkha Lhakhang ལྕང་སྒང་ཁ་ལྷ་ཁང་།.

Perched on a pine-clad ridge overlooking the capital, the 12th-century Changangkha Lhakhang is the oldest surviving temple in the Thimphu Valley. This fortress-like complex is the spiritual heart of the city, functioning as a vital community hub rather than a quiet museum piece. Local parents flock here to secure auspicious names and protective blessings for their newborns from the resident monks. Inside the atmospheric sanctuary, pilgrims pay respects to a magnificent, multi-armed bronze statue of Chenrezi (the Buddha of Compassion) and giant, gold-inked sacred texts. Outside, the courtyard offers a superb vantage point over the sprawling valley below, wrapped in the hum of spinning prayer wheels and the murmurs of daily devotion.
