Musée de la Photographie.

Housed in a former neo-Gothic Carmelite convent, the Musée de la Photographie is one of the largest and most significant institutions of its kind in Europe. The architecture is a draw in itself, pairing the original cloister and chapel with a bold contemporary wing added in 2008. Inside, the collection spans over 100,000 photographs and 2,500 historical devices, tracing the medium’s evolution from 19th-century pioneers to contemporary surrealism and reportage. The experience is designed to be accessible rather than purely academic; visitors can explore 1900s-style studios, optical illusions, and the technical quirks of image manipulation. Outside, the museum’s park features trees registered with the Heritage Inventory, offering a quiet, green retreat in the heart of Mont-sur-Marchienne.
