John Watling's Distillery.
Set on the historic Buena Vista Estate, which dates back to 1789, John Watling’s Distillery offers a glimpse into traditional Bahamian spirit production. The grounds are a blend of tropical gardens and colonial history, featuring a hand-carved 200-year-old limestone well and views of the Nassau harbor. Production remains refreshingly manual; visitors can watch staff bottle small-batch rums by hand and observe rows of aging white oak barrels. Distinctive touches include charcoal filtration using local coconut husks and bottle necks wrapped in sisal plait from Cat Island. Beyond the flagship rums, the distillery produces vodka filtered through pink sand from Eleuthera and botanical gin. After a self-guided tour through the museum-like estate, the Red Turtle Tavern serves as the designated spot for tastings and classic cocktails.
