Ocean Hole.
Located a mile inland, this circular saltwater lake is one of Eleuthera’s most storied natural landmarks. Despite its distance from the coast, the water level rises and falls with the tides, suggesting a subterranean link to the Atlantic that legendary explorer Jacques Cousteau famously failed to map. Locals once believed the hole was bottomless and possessed healing properties; today, the high salt content makes it exceptionally buoyant and easy for swimming. Schools of snapper and angelfish gather near the surface, accustomed to being fed by visitors from the surrounding rocky ledges. The site is equipped with ladders for easy entry, while a perimeter path and shaded gazebo provide a quiet vantage point for those preferring to observe the dark blue depths from dry land.
