allmeinde commongrounds.
Founded in 2000 by Gerold and Katia Schneider, allmeinde commongrounds is an independent cultural initiative that bridges contemporary thought and Alpine tradition. Occupying a masterfully converted mountain barn just above Lech, the space pairs a weathered, rustic exterior with a minimalist, light-filled interior of clay walls and vaulted wooden beams. More of a working atelier than a stiff gallery, it functions as a shared intellectual "commons," housing a 2,000-volume library dedicated to philosophy, art, and Alpine life alongside a flexible upper-floor loft. The program features exhibitions, residencies, and talks by major international figures like James Turrell and Antony Gormley, offering a rare, thoughtful detour where a day on the slopes or hiking trails seamlessly transitions into world-class art and quiet contemplation.
