Alpenzoo Innsbruck.
Clinging to the slopes of the Nordkette range at 750 meters above sea level, Alpenzoo Innsbruck is one of Europe’s highest-altitude zoos and uniquely focused. Rather than hosting a global collection, this conservation-minded "theme zoo" is dedicated entirely to native Alpine wildlife. A walk here feels like a mountain hike, with steep, winding paths leading past naturalistic enclosures that house around 2,000 animals across 150 regional species, including brown bears, wolves, lynx, ibex, and golden eagles. The terrariums and a cold-water aquarium further showcase the area's diverse aquatic life and reptiles. Reachable via the Hungerburgbahn funicular, the terraced grounds offer excellent views over Innsbruck alongside a rare, intimate look at the Alps' wildest residents.
