The Henry Jones Art Hotel.
Occupying the former IXL jam factory on Hobart’s waterfront, The Henry Jones Art Hotel is Australia’s first dedicated art hotel. The site, a collection of 19th-century warehouses, preserves its industrial bones with exposed sandstone walls, heavy timber beams, and original machinery footprints. Rather than standard hotel decor, the corridors and 56 uniquely designed rooms serve as a rotating gallery for over 400 contemporary Tasmanian artworks, many of which are available for purchase. The aesthetic is a deliberate clash of heritage textures and modern luxury, featuring glass-walled bathrooms and Kohler spa baths. On-site, the Landscape Restaurant & Grill highlights local produce and John Glover’s landscape paintings, while the intimate IXL Long Bar offers a front-row seat to the working harbor. It is a dense, atmospheric stay that feels more like a lived-in gallery than a traditional hotel.
