Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego.

Situated at the literal end of the Pan-American Highway, Argentina’s only coastal national park protects a dramatic intersection of subantarctic forest, Andean peaks, and marine channels. Most visitors arrive via the historic End of the World Train, which retraces a former convict route into a landscape of southern beech trees and deep peat bogs. While much of its 68,000 hectares remains a strictly protected reserve, the accessible sections offer well-marked trails along the Beagle Channel and the shores of Lago Acigami. Keep an eye out for Andean condors overhead or upland geese near the shell middens left behind by the indigenous Yámana people. Whether you’re postmarking a letter at the tiny floating post office or hiking to the terminus at Lapataia Bay, the park feels appropriately remote, raw, and windswept.
